ENODA commences Trial Programme for the Prime Exchanger with UFD
As published in Energy Voice 02/12 - Enoda trials electricity network management technology in Spain
Live in-grid programme commenced with UFD, the Madrid-based electricity distributor of the Naturgy Group, trialling the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger, dynamic power flow platform
Opportunity to demonstrate the device’s unique features in live grid for the first time
Paves the way for broader deployment of this first-of-a-kind technology
Edinburgh, 20 November 2025 – ENODA LTD, a UK based company delivering leading edge innovation in energy technology, is pleased to announce the recent commencement of a trial programme with UFD, the Madrid-based electricity distributor of the Naturgy Group. The programme is trialling the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger in its low voltage (LV) network. UFD is currently deploying innovative technologies to digitalise their systems and continue to improve supply quality.
The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger combined with Enoda’s ENSEMBLE™ platform and Enoda’s Nodal Asset Management monitoring software, can deliver a fully integrated platform for DSOs to help optimise network management and planning, and provide greater visibility of the quality of the electricity signals, including load imbalances.
The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger can dynamically correct the electricity signal and support UFD in the digitalisation of its electricity networks. Among other benefits, the adoption of the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger can enable higher levels of distributed solar power generation. This is particularly relevant in Spain where consumers are increasingly opting for rooftop photovoltaic installations.
The ongoing trial programme with UFD is currently demonstrating that a new approach to enhance power quality is feasible in near real-time.
The programme with UFD also aims to demonstrate:
Power flow management - ensuring optimal energy distribution at the transformation centres.
Elimination of harmful harmonics - reducing energy distortions that can degrade power quality and impact system reliability.
Power factor correction - improving the efficiency of energy usage.
By addressing these pressing grid challenges, the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger can support reliable integration of increasing levels of renewable energy sources and accelerate the energy transition.
Andrew Scobie, Founder and Chief Technology & Product Officer at ENODA commented: “This partnership with UFD is a major step forward in our quest to show the capabilities of the Prime Exchanger in the live grid. Our groundbreaking technology, the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger, has been rigorously tested where it has evidenced its potential to enhance energy networks significantly. At ENODA, we’re not content with quick fixes; we’re driven to create lasting change, harnessing a new understanding of the fundamental physics. The relentless effort and passion of our team means that we can now unlock the full potential of a resilient, secure and competitive energy system for every one.”
The trial programme with UFD paves the way for broader deployment of ENODA's technology, facilitating the evolution of electricity grids to meet their current and future needs.
